When a 2 goal lead is not enough...

ABOVE: ONE OF THE MANY YOUNG FANS IN THE STANDS AT RAP! GREAT tv COVERAGE, TOO BAD NOT MORE OF THE VICTORIA GAMES WHERE ON FREE-TV!
BELOW:JAPANESE FREE KICK, LOTS OF MOVEMENT IN THE BOX!
The game had moments of drama and excitement, the first three goals (2 on PKs) gave the fans something to cheer for but the 2nd Czech goal - looked dubious - would have liked to see a replay (but replays on questionable calls where not shown in the stadium!)- looked like the player really embellished the dive! But in the closing minutes of the game it looked like their was a blatant hand ball in the box by a Czech defender on the line - ref gave a corner kick!

Surprising to see the Japanese give up a 2 goal lead, but they sat back especially in the second halfand tried to defend it instead of continuing to play their attacking game - bad tactics!
Something we WON'T see from the lakeHill u12 Gold teams this season (Coach Mario will have the lads running and scoring for the full time in each match!)!
126+ minutes of PURE excitement including 13 penalty kicks 3 in regulation time (3 misses in the Shoot Out!)

final SCORE: Czechs 3 goals (all on 'dead balls') - Japan 2 goals
Czechs 4 goals to Japans 3 in the Shoot-out
Yellow Cards: 'lots' in the second half!
Red cards: 1 to both teams

Thanks to the Victoria SOC for a great event!

Day 3 of the FIFA u20 in Victoria

above, Coach Mario (in the VIP [Very Italian Persons] tribune) greeting/acknowledging :) his many fans!
below, Uruguay's pre-match warm up drills included a speed-ladder Once the match got underway Zambia started to exert lots of pressure and their speedy forwards attacked the Uruguay defense. On one break-away the Uruguay goalie 'brought down' a Zambian forward resulting in both a PK and a Red Card for the keeper. With less than 20 minutes played Zambia 1 - Uruguay 0. Later in the game Zambia would have one of their players 'booked' with a red card and the two teams played the rest of the match with 10 men per side. Both teams moved to a 3-3-3 system but it would once again be Zambia scoring on a defensive lapse by Uruguay in the second half. Final score Zambia records a 2-nil win to progress to the next round while Uruguay would be flying home!
At half time Mario saw many familiar faces including members of the LakeHill u12B division. While other people took turns to score on Craig Forest in the adidas inflatable goal. The 2nd match of the day would feature the two fan-favorites of Pool F (and also the two undefeated teams): Japan and Nigeria! They would play to determine first place in the Victoria-hosted division. Winner would get to stay in Victoria and prepare for their next opponents while the 2nd place team would have to pack their bags and travel the 5 hour flight back east for their next game to be played on Field turf! Japan appeared to have scored a winner in the second half of the match only to see it decared offside by the game officials! Final result was 0-0 but Japan was awarded first place and home field advantage over the Czech Republic (to be played on Wednesday at 8pm) because Japan had scored one more goal in the tournament than had Nigeria.

Good Sportsmanship

During our September u12 Gold Boys exibition match versus Prospect Lake , a PLSC boy was on the ground after what looked like a possible injury following a goal mouth collision.

A u12 Boys Gold game is played with lots of intensity and there is always a chance that a player may go to the ground with a chance of injury. If you are on the field and have possession of the ball and see that a player appears to be hurt REGARDLESS if it is your team mate or NOT, do the right thing and send the ball out of play even if that means you loose possession!
A fair opponent will realize that you have stopped play and when it resumes they will give you the ball on a thow in.

One of the best examples of good sportsmanship came in a recent English Division1 match featuring Leicester City who gifted a penalty kick to their opponents. Read the story below for the details.
