Fans were surprised when health and safety chiefs put up signs at Southampton's FA Cup clash with Manchester United warning of "flying footballs". One Saints fan said:"The number of shots we've had this season, I don't think there's much danger of being hit by any of our players."
Congratulations to the Dragons who participated in the weekend BaysU indoor tournament! You all got lots of touches on the ball and a lot of goals were scored (at both ends of the field! ;)
What we saw was a very different game from outdoor soccer.. in the end neither the Dragons or the Lakers were a match for the DDC collection! My observation was that you started every game well and usually got ahead but could not sustain the pressure. Unfortunately I missed the 4th game vs PLSC where a total of 11 goals were scored in what was described to be a thrilling game! In the final as expected the DDC team walloped their opposition.
On the girls side the CB team with guest Monique from our Lakehill Reds u13 team went undefeated with a convincing win in the Championship game over Gorge that saw two goals from CB Goalies scored against their opponents!
Two other lakehill teams made the finals and won!!! The u15Gold Girls and the u16 Gold Boys (the boys went undefeated in their division)!!
Back to training tonight at UVIC to prepare for our final few games then we are registered to play in the annual GHSA Tournament in April so lots of soccer remaining on this season!
We hope everyone is having a great Holiday season and keeping fit (Shovelling their neighbours driveways, side streets etc). Braefoot Park is still under snow so we are hoping for a quick melt!
At the moment the Braefoot field conditions have field closures in effect, our game is at 11am on Saturday vs Bays and the next walk about is 9am so keep an eye on this WEB PAGE and check your emails for possible locations change!
Salt Spring has joined the league and our bye has been replaced with an away game! By all accounts the lads played well , scored some goals (pleasant change), had opportunities and offside calls galore! It`s not the amount of goals that count its how your finish your chances! Still lots of work required... Mario is planning a `finishing school`for the lads in 2009!
By all accounts the lads played very well against GHSA on Saturday but the finish was not there! Chins up and prepare for the coming weekend! We have a good feeling about the next game!
"They are a good team on paper, but the game's never been played on a piece of paper." Leyton Orient's Martin Ling proves his managerial credentials and knowledge of the game. (source: BBC Sport).
Thanks to the Dragons and the Reds! The Tuesday night mixed practice was great! I know the Girls loved kickin' butt and the Guys wanted to outrun the girls! You are two skilled teams and the coaching staff will look for more opportunities to train you all together!
Next up ...the Guys prepare for their Saturday 11am home game against GHSA, while the Gold Girls are challenged to a full field game on Thursday by another Boys team....
...early on we had plenty of goal scoring chances! At this level of play and with the amount of skill on this team we just need to bury our opportunities!
A frustrating result from a well played game.... a defensive lapse allowed our opponents to take two points from us! While unlucky we'll have to work hard in our next game to fire up the cylinders and regroup!
